A conceptual artwork titled "Dispensation of time – self portrait”

The conceptual artwork – in this work Asabea’s portrays her childhood life. She sits in the position she normally finds herself working. She explores the semiotics of the elements found in her immediate environment and how she related to them. At age eight he found herself being the one who brings firewood from the farm, lights the morning fire, prepares food for the father, siblings and all family members who visit – this is represented by the local tripods - ‘mukyea’, the fire and the iron pot.

‘Knowledge through formal education’ was core in the family. The legacy and the greatest inheritance 'Papa Asa Anakwa’ her father insists always for all his children. Knowledge is represented by the ‘lantern’ the best and highest source of light used in their village at the time for the middle class. If one had a kerosene lantern you were rich because most people used 'pgatashie’ or ‘bobo’. Asabea leaves the rest of the interpretation to her cherished viewers.

This work was displayed at Asabea’s solo exhibition she organized for herself on her 50th Anniversary: Life Statement and Art Exhibition which was held at Accra College of Education, Accra in 2018.
